A vision for television

  • Vision for Television

For the first three years we worked full-time in Africa God never failed to amaze us with his wondrous grace and steadfast love. But in my heart I ached. I cried out, ”God, how do we reach the Muslim, the Sikh, the Hindu? We can’t do a kids crusade. We can’t go into their temples. We can’t go into their mosques.” And I believe God gave us a vision for Television.

And God said, “Thank you. Now let me show you the miracle I have in store.”In 1993, The Kenya Broadcasting Company (KBC) told us they weren’t interested in our program and the only way we could get on the air was to pay $2500 an episode. I knew it was impossible. There was nothing I could do but surrender. I gave God my talents and said, “I cannot do this. You’ve given me the vision but I cannot do this.” And God said, “Thank you. Now let me show you the miracle I have in store.”

A miracle indeed. Not only did we end up airing the program on KBC, but it was by their invitation. The government-run network wanted our program, even though it was declaring the good news of Jesus Christ! They didn’t charge a thing to broadcast the program and they didn’t edit out the religious content.

Today, more than 22 million kids and adults watch Rainbow Surprise every week. For me it will never be just a kids’ show or just an outlet for the gospel. The very existence of this program will always be a testimony to God’s faithfulness and the way He dazzles us with miracles when we lay ourselves down.
